Department to be represented with five papers at ECIS 2026 in Milan
From June 15 to 17, 2026, the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) took place in Milan under the theme “Reimagining Digital Technology for Business, Management, and Society.” The conference brought together researchers from around the world to discuss current developments, challenges, and future prospects of digital transformation. The Department of Business Informatics at the University of Kassel was represented with a total of five research papers.
ECIS is one of the most important academic conferences in the field of business informatics in Europe. This year, the conference was hosted by Bocconi University and organized in collaboration with the University of Milan.
The following research papers were presented by scholars from the department:
- Ulrich Bretschneider, Anna Hupe, Marek Herde, Sarah Oeste-Reiß, and Bernhard Sick (2026): “The Good into the Pot, the Bad into the Crop: A Deep Learning Approach to Control Crowd Labeling.” ECIS , Milan, Italy.
- Olivia Bruhin, Ingrid Bauer-Hänsel, Philipp Ebel, and Jan Marco Leimeister(2026): Beyond Adoption: A Dynamic Model of Generative AI User Archetypes in Information System Development Teams. ECIS , Milan, Italy.
- Teresa Grauer and Mahei M. Li (2026): Navigating the Landscape of IT Operating Models or “How IT Works.” ECIS , Milan, Italy.
- Antonia Tolzin and Jan Marco Leimeister (2026): Towards Design Patterns for Common Ground in Human–Artificial Intelligence Interaction. ECIS , Milan, Italy.
- Kevin Schmitt and Teresa Grauer (2026): Generative Artificial Intelligence Governance: A Structural Practice Perspective. ECIS , Milan, Italy.
In addition to the academic presentations, ECIS 2026 offered a diverse supporting program. The conference’s two keynote addresses provided particular inspiration. The academic keynote focused on the topic “Inclusiveness in Research and Academia” and highlighted the importance of diversity and participation in research and academia. The practice keynote by Gabriele Chiesa, Group Chief Technology Officer at UniCredit, addressed the role and responsibility of humans in the development and implementation of agent-based AI systems in large organizations.
In addition, the conference offered numerous opportunities for professional exchange and international networking with researchers from the information systems community. Participation in ECIS 2026 enabled members of the research group to present current research findings, gain new perspectives, and further expand existing academic collaborations.
