Are you nearing the end of your master’s program and interested in pursuing a Ph.D.? Or are you already planning a Ph.D. but aren’t sure how to finance it? Maybe you even have an idea for a topic but aren’t sure how to structure it?

Then the Exposé Scholarship from the University of Kassel might be just what you need!

The University of Kassel provides funding of €1,300 per month for up to nine months to prospective doctoral candidates. During the funding period, as a scholarship recipient, you’ll write the exposé required for your application for admission to the doctoral program as well as for applying for a doctoral scholarship from a student aid organization.

Of course, we won’t leave you to figure this out on your own: During your funding period, you’ll attend two workshops designed to help you write your exposé and answer any questions you may have about doctoral funding.

To apply, you must have received confirmation of supervision from a Professor at the University of Kassel, who will also write a recommendation letter for you. Then all you really need is a letter of motivation, a two-page research proposal, a tabular resume, and your academic transcripts.

Applications are now being accepted; the deadline is December 1, 2026, for funding to begin on April 1, 2027.

Note: Please be aware that the committee carefully reviews all applications received. The meeting to decide who will receive the scholarship will take place in mid-February. We therefore ask for your patience.

The University of Kassel supports those who wish to pursue a doctorate for up to nine months with a monthly grant of €1,300.
