Abstract:
Alice and Bob share a circular pizza cut into n slices of arbitrary sizes. Alice starts by choosing any slice. Then, starting with Bob, the players alternately take one of the two nearest remaining slices on either side of the starting gap. When each player can reach only the nearest remaining slice on either side (reach one), this is Winkler’s famous pizza problem, in which Alice can guarantee surprisingly little: just 4/9 of the pizza. With unrestricted choice, however, she can secure at least 1/2 of the pizza.
What happens in between? With reach two, both players have more flexibility than in the original game. One might expect Alice’s guaranteed share to lie somewhere between 4/9 and 1/2.
In this talk, we settle the question.
We look forward to welcoming you!
Sincerely,
