Fire - Water - Earth - Air

Event series "Fire - Earth - Water - Air" starts on 10.1.2013 with the topic "Earth - Soil"

As part of the Science Year 2012 "Future Project Earth " of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the University of Kassel and the City of Kassel are jointly organizing the event series "Fire - Earth - Water - Air". The evening events will take place as panel discussions in the Bürgersaal of the City of Kassel.

The first event on the topic of "Earth - Soil" with Prof. Dr. Michael Wachendorf (Department of Ecological Agricultural Sciences at the University of Kassel) and Ms. Regula-Maria
Ohlmeier (Head of the Environment and Garden Office of the City of Kassel) will take place on Thursday, 10.1.2013 from 18:00 - 20:00 in the Bürgersaal of the City of Kassel .

Bioenergy is an essential component of the energy transition, but at the same time it is also the subject of a controversial debate in society, in which numerous conflicting goals of this energy production become clear. While energy crop cultivation is increasingly reaching its limits in many respects, biomass that is produced, for example, in landscape conservation or the maintenance of communal green spaces is not even being considered in the realignment of energy systems. The first topic of the event series, "Earth - Soil", aims to present possible potentials and technical concepts, identify inhibiting factors and discuss implementation perspectives.

The event series - symbolized by the four basic elements of life - will deal with essential questions of the relationship between humans and the environment. These will be examined not only from a scientific perspective, but also from a practical and socio-political perspective. Special features of the series of events are the regional reference to Kassel as well as the consideration of the economic and social dimension in addition to the ecological dimension. The series of events is aimed not only at representatives of local and regional politics and administration, but also at all other interested parties.
