We will resume supervising new theses from the middle of the summer semester 2025.
Notes on writing theses at the department
We generally recommend that you attend our courses if you want to write your thesis with us. In addition, we will supervise you in exceptional cases and after you have attended other courses in economics and social sciences.
With a university Master's thesis, you prove that you can work scientifically. Before you actually start working on your Master's thesis, you need to find a topic, which is not part of the processing time. You can find information on this topic-finding phase here and in our events.
In an initial consultation, you can find out about the topics currently available and how we work in the department and discuss your own ideas for a thesis with us. Make an appointment with us by e-mail, in which you should also provide us with a meaningful motivation, information on your level of study and the direction of your interests in terms of content for the thesis as well as for methodological implementation ideas. Questions that can help you: What is the problem? Why is it a relevant topic? What question(s) is/are associated with it? Which theoretical perspective can support you in conceptualizing the topic appropriately? How do you want to proceed?
After the initial consultation and if both sides agree that supervision is thematically appropriate, we will provide you with further information on developing the topic and creating a concept for your thesis in the form of an exposé.
We would like to point out that prior engagement with theories from the field of sustainability management and methods of empirical social research is an advantage if you wish to write your thesis with us.
