Central evaluation of all lectures
Information about the evaluation of lectures
At the University of Kassel all lectures are to be evaluated centrally every third term. As most lectures are only held once a year, every lecture will have been evaluated every third year. Apart from these regular evaluation we also have irregular, voluntary evaluations.
Until 2015 these evaluations were pen&paper surveys which were circulated and collected in the lectures. Thus only students who happened to be present on that very day were interviewed. The appraisal of the returned forms was carried out in Kassel and it took some time before any results were available.
Because of that the Study Committee decided in 2015 - on special request of the students' representatives - to evaluate online.
To achieve the best possible return rate we have designed the online form in such a way that you are informed and reminded by email when you are asked to evaluate a lecture. As soon as you submit your answers from the questionnaire your transaction code (TAN) is invalidated and the link to your email deleted. No connection between your given answers and your identity can be traced. Your anonymity is maintained.
What happens with the results?
Each lecturer receives a summary of his/her evaluation and with it important clues for the improvement of the lecture. Further the deans and the members of the Study Committee have access for perusal. Every three terms a delegation from the Study Committee identifies the best results from the module lectures and the lecturers are awarded. If lectures don't do well in the evaluation, the lecturers concerned are invited for an interview with the Study Dean. The discussion will focus on the aspects capable of improvement and the applicable offers in our training programme.
Most of the times there will not be an instant change. But knowing the deficits and the opportunities for improvement is an important first step. Please help us by participating in the evaluations.
