Thanks to their genetic diversity, heterogeneous wheat populations have the potential to deliver stable yields and good baking properties under increasingly uncertain conditions. In the BÖLN project BAKWERT ("Evaluation and acceptance of heterogeneous wheat populations in organic value chains" FKZ 2819OE033), scientists and practitioners have been researching and testing the potential of this innovative breeding approach for the organic food industry hand in hand since July 2020. Together with the University of Kassel, the KÖLBW-LTZ and the professional association Die Freien Bäcker e.V., the BAKWERT partners from agriculture, milling and bakery are producing, processing and marketing two different wheat populations - with great success to date.
With the "Open Project Day" on 17.09.2021 (9:00-11:00) we want to offer all interested parties insights into the project and the first results of our work in the field, in the mill and in the bakery. In an online event lasting about 2 hours, practitioners will inform and report on their experiences with the heterogeneous wheat populations. Guests from breeding and marketing will explain what is behind the term "heterogeneous wheat populations" and what we can expect from the material. The event offers plenty of room for questions and in-depth discussions moderated by the BAKWERT team.
