Erasmus Exchange of Dr. Mohammad Sharif Rahimi

Dr. Mohammad Sharif Rahimi, a PhD in Agricultural Economics from Ege University, completed a two-month Erasmus+ research internship at the International Agricultural Policy and Environmental Governance section, Faculty of Organic Agricultural Sciences, University of Kassel, from July 1 to September 10, 2025, funded by the Erasmus Worldwide mobility program.

During this period, he developed and refined a research proposal on “Assessing Agriculture in Afghanistan in Relation to Agroecology and How Afghan Agriculture Transformed as a Result of the New Regime.” He also conducted an extensive literature review, integrating social, economic, and environmental sustainability perspectives in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals to support his future research and publications. In addition, he contributed to the Killi SES Project by reviewing datasets and exploring linkages with his research.

Dr. Rahimi actively participated in departmental activities, attending seminars and engaging in discussions with faculty and colleagues. He also delivered a seminar based on one of his PhD papers, “The Socio-Economic Structure and Perspectives of Agricultural Product Exporters in Afghanistan,” complemented by broader insights into Afghanistan’s agricultural systems. The presentation encouraged valuable dialogue, generated constructive feedback, and provided opportunities for academic exchange. The internship offered him a platform to strengthen academic communication, improve research design, gain interdisciplinary insights, and build professional connections within the faculty.

This Erasmus exchange not only enhanced Dr. Rahimi’s academic and professional development but also demonstrated the tangible benefits of international mobility in advancing collaborative research, enriching academic environments through diverse perspectives, and strengthening ties between the University of Kassel, Ege University, and international scholars. Building on this experience, he plans to further develop his research outputs and contribute to future collaborations and proposals addressing sustainable agriculture and agroecology.
