Centre for International Rural Development

For almost 100 years Witzenhausen has been a centre for education and training in the field of tropical and subtropical agriculture and rural development.

The Centre for International Rural Development is a scientific organisational unit of the University of Kassel based at Witzenhausen. Its purpose is to develop, update and implement strategies and programmes in research and teaching and to offer logistical and technical support for the international activities of its member departments.

As an institute of the Faculty 11 the Centre for International Rural Development is responsible for representing and developing the international agricultural profile of this Faculty. It is also an information and documentation centre for rural development in the Tropics and Subtropics.

It also co-operates with the German Institute for Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture (DITSL), with the Ethnological Museum and the Research Greenhouse, all based at Witzenhausen. Further interactions exist between related centers for tropical research in Berlin, Bonn, Goettingen and Hohenheim as well as to the International Center for Decent Work and Development (ICDD).
