On 15.07.2025, Stefan Saake successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled "Models for forecasting vehicle utilization in public transport based on APCS data". In his dissertation, he developed and compared various forecasting models for the utilization of public transport vehicles, including a utilization forecast for multi-purpose areas. Through his work, he was able to show that reliable forecasts for vehicle utilization can be calculated using data from automatic passenger counting systems (APCS). The results can help to make public transport more comfortable from the passenger's point of view and reduce barriers to use, thus contributing to the success of the transport transition.
