2025 | September | 5th International Conference on the Chemistry of Construction Materials "ICCCM" in Garching near Munich

Members of the Building Materials and Construction Chemistry working group at the University of Kassel present current research results

For the fifth time, the Construction Chemistry Section of the GDCh (German Chemical Society) hosted the International Conference on the Chemistry of Construction Materials(ICCCM) from September 8-10, 2020. After the last conference was held in Karlsruhe in 2022, this year's venue was Munich/Garching. The Materials in Construction and Construction Chemistry working group was represented with posters as well as presentations and a wide range of topics. With the topic "Influence of Silica Oligomers on Workability and Setting time of Alkali-Activated Materials", Dr. Wetzel contributed to the session on the chemistry of inorganic binders. Dr. Umbach's lecture "Mechanical shear bond and 3D microstructural characteristics of the bonding zone of repair concretes on fractured surfaces" presented the results of the interdisciplinary research project "Gealterte Hochmoderne in Architektur und Denkmalpflege". In his lecture "Impact of Alternative Binders on the production and properties of calcium silicate masonry units", Mr. Laabs explained how both sawdust from sand-lime brick production and the use of cements instead of CaO can contribute to an optimizedCO2 balance of sand-lime bricks. Mr. Kosenko, Mr. Latifi, Ms. Link and Ms. Fremder were represented with poster contributions. In addition to scientific lectures, the general meeting of the GDCh and award ceremonies, a lively exchange took place during the poster presentations and the evening program. We would like to thank the GDCh, the TU Munich and this year's organizer Prof. Dr. Torben Gädt and his team for the successful organization.
