Obituary: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Link

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Link

* March 10, 1941 + January 11, 2026

After completing his studies and earning his doctorate at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Michael Link joined Dornier-System in Friedrichshafen as a computational engineer in 1972, where he took over as head of the Structural Dynamics Department after a few years. In 1980, he was appointed Professor of lightweight construction at what was then the University of Kassel and remained active in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Kassel until his retirement in 2006.

He passed on his outstanding knowledge and wealth of experience to his students with great enthusiasm, thereby shaping an entire generation of our graduates.

The development and application of computer-based methods for the static and dynamic analysis of structural systems were the focal points of his research and teaching. Translating theoretical knowledge into concrete solutions was a key priority for him. Examples of this include the assessment of vibrations caused by ceiling oscillations in the Old Masters Gallery at Wilhelmshöhe Palace and the vibration monitoring of the Gärtnerplatz Bridge in the Fulda floodplain.

Our deepest sympathies go out to his family.
