On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the annual North Hesse Construction Industry Award for outstanding theses was presented at the Gießhaus at the University of Kassel. This award is the oldest award for student work at the University of Kassel.

Endowed by the Kassel Consortium for Step-by-Step Education in Civil Engineering (ASK), the award recognizes theses that contribute to solving practical problems in civil engineering.

This year, Mareike Schaake, M.Sc., from the Department of Structural Steel Engineering, was honored for her master’s thesis on “Fatigue of Flanged Plate Connections in Bridge Construction.” Her thesis thus provides new insights into how long our bridges will last.
