Determination of basic principles for the production of sustainable sand-lime bricks with minimizedCO2 load(Öko-KS)
Proportion of quicklime in sand-lime brick
The mass proportion of quicklime in sand-lime brick is only 7% ...

As part of a research project of the Department of Building Materials and Construction Chemistry in cooperation with the Forschungsvereinigung Kalk-Sand e.V., our team is dedicated to the challenge of making the production of sand-lime bricks more sustainable. The aim is to ensure the quality of sand-lime bricks while reducing the amount of lime and energy used for autoclaving by identifying optimum production parameters. This includes the development of formulations and manufacturing processes that not only minimize energy consumption andCO2 emissions, but also reduce production costs.
An essential part of the project is to prove the feasibility of these new approaches, first in the laboratory, then in the pilot plant and finally on an industrial scale in cooperation with two medium-sized sand-lime brickworks. By working closely with industry, we aim to conduct practical research that can be widely applied in SMEs and thus make a significant contribution toCO2 reduction in sand-lime brick production.
