Join us for the next INCHER & ZELL Colloquium session "Between hype and reality" by Dr. Marit Kastaun

On 3. December 2025 (16.30 -18.00) Dr. Marit Kastaun will give a lecture "Between hype and reality – Teaching and learning with and about AI in (science) education".

The growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming teaching and learning and brings new challenges for (science) education. AI can be both a tool for learning and a topic to learn about, which requires rethinking educational goals in an AI-driven world. This presentation brings together theoretical ideas, research findings, and classroom experiences to explore the opportunities and challenges of integrating AI into science education. Using examples from current research projects — such as developing a machine-based corrector for scientific hypotheses (SHIFT, PRONET-D) and using image-generating AI to work with students’ conceptions — both didactic and technological perspectives are discussed.

Dr. Marit Kastaunis a lecturer and research associate in the Biology Education Department at the University of Kassel. Her research focuses on teaching and learning with and about digital technologies (including artificial intelligence) in science education, as well as on inquiry-based learning environments that foster scientific reasoning.
