CINSaT Spring Colloquium 2018

CINSaT uses internal conferences to sharpen its scientific focus

As in the years before, CINSaT had invited to an internal conference at the Ahorn Berghotel in Friedrichroda at the end of February. The internal colloquium is an important forum for the communication of current research work within the scientific focus areas. At the same time, the members are given unique opportunities to discuss the further development of the focal points and the planning of coordinated joint projects. An important ingredient for success lies in the participation of the doctoral students of the subject areas, so that the broadest possible platform for discussion can be created. With around 80 participants, the gratifyingly high participation rates of the last two spring colloquia were again maintained. This once again reflects the positive development of the scientific center in recent years.

The colloquium was opened with a cordial speech by the speaker Prof. Dr. Johann Peter Reithmaier. The constructive feedback of the past year was used to make two structural changes to the program: In addition to the regular series of lectures in the context of the scientific priorities of CINSaT, a separate focus session was held for the first time. This served as a prelude to a future intensification of the mutual exchange within the focal points. A major objective was therefore to jointly develop strategies for concrete implementation. In addition, for the first time, a hike was organized for a relaxed exchange of ideas and getting to know each other, which all participants found very enriching against a winter backdrop.

Within the framework of the focal areas, the scientific staff of the participating departments again presented the latest results from the world of nanostructures in an impressive way. The interdisciplinary cooperation between the different departments was highlighted in all presentations as an important foundation for the results achieved. The diversified program was further enriched by the presentation of Dr. Arne Senftleben (femtosecond spectroscopy and ultrafast laser control) in the course of the application for associate membership in CINSaT, which had been submitted in advance.

To intensify and deepen the scientific exchange, the program was again rounded off by an evening poster session. The numerous research activities within the framework of the CINSaT focal points were presented on a total of about 60 posters, whereby the imagination for the visual presentation of the results, e.g. by showing film material with the help of tablets, knew no bounds. Based on the positive experience of the previous year, the poster session was again open-ended, providing ample breeding ground for planning future collaborations.
