What opportunities does the Open Web Index (OWI) offer society - Interview with Huda Koulani, project member of the PriDI team
Huda Koulani studied computer science at the University of Kassel. In her Master's degree, she focused on "Computer Science for the Digital Society". She analyzed the potential development of tomorrow's society, the principles of human-machine interaction and which aspects of this need to be taken into account when developing new technologies. Following her Master's degree, Huda joined the PriDI project as a doctoral student.
At the interface between law and business informatics, the PriDI project is researching how an open web index (OWI) can be designed in a way that complies with fundamental rights and protects privacy. The web index functions as a well-structured, daily updated register of all available websites - search engines access the index when a query is made. An open web index is currently being jointly developed by 14 European countries and is currently in the test phase. There are two main future user groups for the open web index: 1. application developers: they develop new service products based on the index. 2. end users: they should experience and understand that the search engine or application they use is based on an open web index.
