Prof. Dr. Martin Potthast
Prof. Dr. Martin Potthast has been a member of the Research Center for Information Systems Design (ITeG) at the University of Kassel since April 2025. His research focuses on language technologies, search engines, and the analysis and synthesis of information, with a particular focus on the social challenges relating to the quality and trustworthiness of information. In this respect, Professor Potthast works on an interdisciplinary basis with researchers from the humanities and social sciences.
Our research lies at the interface between computer science and society. We develop new algorithms and tools that help to address social challenges.
The Deep Semantic Learning group works in the fields of Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval and Artificial Intelligence. Key research areas include computational argumentation, text summarization, detecting automatically generated advertising, identifying potentially disturbing content, causal language, and computational creativity. In this research, evaluating the utility of research contributions for human actors in selected use cases plays a prominent role.
