Prof. Dr. phil. Jörn Lamla

Prof. Dr phil. Jörn Lamla has been a member of the Research Centre for Information Systems Design (ITeG) at the University of Kassel since 2015. At the end of 2019, he was appointed by the Hessian Minister for Digital Strategy and Development, Prof. Dr Sinemus, as a member of the founding board of directors of the Hessian Competence Centre for Responsible Digitalisation, which aims to bundle and strengthen research expertise in the state of Hesse on key issues relating to digital change in society.

We want to further develop concepts and theories in social science. It is important to us to interlink this with the reflection of opportunities for design. Thus, we also ask how to develop new solutions for social problems at different levels of social action.

The ITeG-Research Group of Sociological Theory, headed by Prof. Dr Jörn Lamla, is dedicated to the critical discussion, dissemination and further development of the discipline's broad inventory of social and societal theory. It is convinced that a discourse on sociological theory that is limited to the interplay of different schools and paradigms falls short. Rather, this discourse is linked back to current social challenges and to the investigation of social processes of their collective and individual processing and empirically grounded through integration, as here in the ITeG. The societal challenges to which particular attention is paid in the field of sociological theory include issues of sustainability, global justice, digitalisation, consumer protection and democracy.
