Based on 16 interviews, this article examines the extent to which course directors at Austrian universities contribute to or counteract social mobility in academic further education through their approach to social mobility. The results indicate that when it comes to recruiting, admitting and supporting students without formal qualifications, they find themselves caught between exclusion and inclusion.
