Burcu Özgün is a research and teaching fellow in the Economic Policy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (EPIE) group, since June 2021. Burcu completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Economics at Middle East Technical University (METU). Burcu completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Economics at Middle East Technical University (METU), and her Ph.D. at the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning, at Utrecht University (NL).

Her research interests are economic geography, urban and regional studies, and text mining. Her current research focuses on the regional dimension of news media. She investigates how the frequency, sentiment and topics of the news in a region affects and is affected from the regional socio-economic characteristics.
