Let's get started in 2026 with "Generative AI in science" and Dr. habil. Anne K. Krüger's lecture

On Wednesday, 14 January 2026, 4.30 - 6 p.m., Dr. habil. Anne K. Krüger (Weizenbaum Institute Berlin), will share her insights on "Generative AI in science. How is research practice changing?" at INCHER & ZELL Colloquium

Authors Abstract: Since the release of ChatGPT in November 2022, there has been an ongoing debate about the influence of generative AI on the academic system and the practices of researchers. Expectations for this technology range from supporting research practice to opening up entirely new ways of knowledge production. Against this backdrop, this talk discusses first findings of the ongoing research project “Generative AI in science. How is research practice changing?”. The project analyzes how generative AI is being integrated into the academic system at the level of research practice in different disciplines, and what needs, opportunities, and consequences for scientific knowledge production arise from this integration.

Anne K. Krügerleads the research group "Reorganisation of Knowledge Practices" at the Weizenbaum Institute Berlin. She holds a doctoral degree in sociology from Humboldt University Berlin and was awarded her habilitation at Technical University Berlin. Her research is situated at the intersection of critical data studies, organizational sociology, the sociology of valuation and evaluation, and science and sechnology studies. She is currently working on digital infrastructures in research evaluation and the use of generative AI in science. Recent publications include the book "Soziologie des Wertens und Bewertens" (2022, utb) and the Routledge International Handbook of Valuation and Society (2024).
