Authors Abstract:

This study explores the internationalization of higher education (IHE) using science mapping techniques based on 5,253 articles and reviews published between 1929 and 2022. The findings reveal a substantial growth and diversification of IHE research, with China-based researchers increasingly contributing to the field alongside traditionally dominant English-speaking countries. The conceptual analysis identified seven major research clusters: teaching and learning, mobility and migration, language policy, study abroad, transnational higher education, international students and their experiences, and macro-level policies and practices. Overall, the findings highlight the growing and increasingly diverse knowledge base of IHE research.
