Objective

Personnel and structural standards for sustainable gender equality and the promotion of diversity in the science and higher education system

In 2008, the DFG introduced the Research-Oriented Standards on Gender Equality in order to achieve and ensure the objective of gender equality. They represent a voluntary commitment on the part of DFG members. Compliance with the gender equality standards is a decision-relevant criterion for the approval of DFG research networks.
The 2022 DFG Members' Assembly decided to expand the diversity aspect in the wording of the “Research-Oriented Standards on Gender Equality” in order to advance the realisation of equal opportunities for all people in science and research - including intersectional participation. In addition, the implementation process of the Research-Oriented Standards on Gender Equality and Diversity was adapted, particularly with regard to reporting and the expansion of the programme to include other aspects of diversity.

With regard to the implementation of these standards, the module ‘Lump sum for equal opportunities measures’ can be applied for in research networks as well as in the Emmy Noether Programme as part of the application process. The amount of the lump sum varies depending on the research project. Applications may be submitted per funding year:
- up to 30,000 euros in Collaborative Research Centres
- up to 15,000 euros in Research Training Groups, Priority Programmes and Research Groups
- up to 1,000 euros per applicant in the research grant and in the Emmy Noether Programme.
