Girls' Day 2026 at the Institute of Materials Engineering

As part of Girls’ Day, which took place on April 23, 2026, the Institute of Materials Engineering – Metallic Materials opened its doors to interested students. Under the motto “Exploring the World of Metals”, participants were welcomed with a varied program offering exciting insights into the field of materials science.

The focus was on fundamental properties of metallic materials such as conductivity, formability, and density, which were vividly demonstrated through interactive experiments and hands-on activities. Special highlights included a live demonstration of a shape memory alloy, coloring coins gold, and an introduction to additive manufacturing of metal components using 3D printing. Another highlight was the mirror polishing of a 3D-printed metal pendant.

Following this, the students took part in a guided tour of the institute’s laboratories, where they learned about various methods of material testing and preparation – including hardness measurement, sample grinding and polishing, and microscopy. In addition to practical experiences, the day also provided valuable inspiration for potential study paths and career opportunities in materials engineering and related technical fields.

We sincerely thank all those involved for their commitment and the students for their great interest.
