Computational modeling of ground freezing

(opens enlarged image)

In this research topic, a computational framework is developed for modeling frozen soils and for designing artificial ground freezing in tunnel construction.

The integration of validated geomechanical modeling of the ground and tunnel support with the effects of artificial ground freezing enables the optimization of process parameters for creating frozen soil bodies and their supporting effect on the tunnel.

Ongoing developments aim to incorporate ice lens formation and to develop more efficient machine learning models for the design phase of ground freezing projects.
