Once again this year, students at the University of Kassel were able to delve deeper into the world of casting materials and molding processes as part of a student internship at the Foundry Technology department. The focus was on practical work in hand mold making with green sand, supplemented by introductions to metallurgy, melt analysis, sand testing and metallography.

Participants were particularly motivated by the opportunity to mold their own models and then cast them themselves; a direct approach to material and process that combines theory and practice.

A special highlight was the visit to the light metal foundry at Volkswagen in Baunatal. We would like to express our sincere thanks for the invitation and the exciting insights. The event concluded with a joint barbecue at the technical center of the department - with room for exchange and review.
