With the successful defense of his research thesis, Stefan Gneiger has been awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Engineering (Dr.-Ing.). His external dissertation is entitled "Development and characterization of fire-resistant magnesium alloys and their processing for applications in the aerospace and automotive industries" and was written in close cooperation with the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT).
The work focuses on innovative solutions for industrial lightweight construction. The material properties and processing methods investigated by Dr.-Ing. Gneiger make a significant contribution to material development, which is particularly relevant for future-oriented and safety-critical applications in the automotive and aviation sectors.
The academic standard of the disputation was underlined by the high-caliber examination committee. It consisted of the following members:
- Prof. Martin Fehlbier (Department of Foundry Technology, University of Kassel)
- Prof. Thomas Niendorf (University of Kassel)
- Prof. Benoit Merle (University of Kassel)
- Prof. Babette Tonn (Clausthal University of Technology)
The official conclusion of the examination was marked by the traditional ringing of the institute bell, which serves as a widely audible sign of a successfully completed doctorate at the department.
