DFG Review Boards for Materials Science and Engineering meet in Kassel

The Review Boards for Materials Science and Engineering of the German Research Foundation (DFG) met on January 23/24, 2025 at the invitation of Professors Heim and Niendorf at the Institute of Materials Engineering of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kassel. As part of the annual strategy meeting, the representatives of the two disciplines on the DFG's central committees, including the Senate, were also present to report on current topics and future tasks. The large group of attendees were able to contribute very well and intensively to the discussions and will keep the days at the University of Kassel in good memory.

The task of the DFG review boards is to provide centralized support for the optimal distribution of the available financial resources. To this end, the projects submitted for funding are reviewed by experts and evaluated according to numerous criteria. The most promising and future-oriented proposals are identified and funded in a complex system. In addition, the review boards are important contacts when it comes to the further development of funding programs or other funding policy issues.

Prof. Niendorf represents the subject of "Materials and materials for sintering processes and additive manufacturing processes" on the committee and is also the spokesperson for the review board for materials engineering. Prof. Heim represents the subject "Polymers and biogenic materials and composites based on them" on the same committee.
