Short Information:

The East-West-Science Centre was established in 1992 as a unit of the University of Kassel. Since 2003, the East-West-Science Centre has been advising all universities in the state of Hessia and has developed initiatives to strengthen international networking in research, education and knowledge transfer with focus on Central and Eastern Europe. Since 2004, the East-West-Science Centre is a branch of the UniKasselTransfer.

OWWZ aims to support scientific exchange with Central and Eastern European countries as well as to spread information on science and technology landscape in each of these countries.

The OWWZ provides a science discussion forum for experts from Eastern and Western Europe, supports transfer in social and environmental fields of technology and provides technical and information support as well as consultancy services. Ongoing offers and programmes include such countries as Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, and Belarus.

Kazan National Research Technological University is one of the oldest universities in Kazan. Its history dates back to 1890 when the Ministry of Public Education of the Russian Empire enacted the resolution to establish the Integrated Industrial and Technical College. In 1919 it was transformed into Kazan Polytechnic Institute and it was 1930, when its chemical faculty and the chemical faculty of Kazan State University formed the basis for Kazan Chemical Technological Institute. Rapid development of institute resulted in its obtaining university status in 1992, when its official name changed to Kazan State Technological University. Versatile activities and success in various priority areas made Kazan State Technological University one of Russian centers in engineering education, research and innovations.
Another milestone in the history of our university is the year 2010, when our university obtained the status of a National Research University and was renamed into Kazan National Research Technological University (KNRTU) in 2011.

The Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was founded on January 1, 1959. Today the Belarusian State of the Orders of the October Revolution and the Order of the Labour Red Banner Agricultural Academy is the largest multidisciplinary agricultural institute of higher education among the countries of CIS and Europe. The BSAA is headed by Dr. P.A.Saskevich, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences.Throughout its history BSAA has trained over 80 000 highly qualified specialists for the country's agro-industrial complex and other sectors of the national economy. Many of its graduates have become prominent statesmen, scientists, heads of large establishments, enterprises, and made a great contribution to the development of the country’s national economy.
The first president of the Republic of Belarus has graduated from the BSAA. And the Academy is proud of this fact. For the outstanding achievements, managerial abilities and professionalism in work, 22 academy graduates were given the Title of Hero of Socialist Labor, 16 graduates – Honored Worker of Science and Technology, 60 – Honorary Figure of Agriculture. Among the alumni of the BSAA there are 21 academicians and corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, 4 acting rectors of Belarusian universities, 36% of the chairmen of the district executive committees, 40% of heads of departments of agricultural management district executive committees and nearly half of the heads of the national agricultural enterprises. Today the Belarusian Agricultural Academy is a unique place in our town. On the campus of the academy there are 16 educational buildings, 14 dormitories, a library with a book collection of over one million copies, a canteen for 800 people.

The most exotic place of the academy and a unique research laboratory is the Botanic Garden, founded in Gory-Goretskaya agricultural school. The main exposition of the garden is an arboretum, which in 1963 was declared a monument of nature of the national importance. Today the unique collection of the Botanic Garden has 366 species, forms and varieties of trees and shrubs, 514 species of medicinal and flower-ornamental plants. Of particular interest is the greenhouse, which collected 304 species and varieties of tropical and subtropical plants.

The Academy also includes educational and scientific center "Experimental fields of the BSAA," a training ground, a cascade of ponds, etc. For leisure, students have the Palace of Culture, a sports complex with a stadium and a swimming pool.
Almost 15 thousand students study at 16 departments of full-time and part-time tuition. Learning process is constantly being improved. To date, the academy has been training specialists in 24 specialties and 16 specializations. Since 2004, the BSAA has been training masters. More than 400 people, who want to get a second higher education for a tuition fee, are enrolled in 6 specialties at the Higher School of Agribusiness.
Today at 60 departments work more than 600 teachers, including 52 Professors and Doctors of Sciences, approximately 300 Candidates of Sciences and Associate Professors. The academy staff is more than two thousand people.
The BSAA provides training of personnel of higher qualification through postgraduate course in 22 specialties in 5 fields of science and through doctoral candidacy in 5 specialties in 4 branches of science. The university has 4 councils for defense of doctoral theses, where annually about 20 applicants for academic degrees defend their dissertations. Over the past five years 8 doctoral and 60 master theses have been defended. At the Faculty of Advanced Training and Retraining from 2.5 to 3 thousand heads of agricultural organizations and enterprises of agro-industrial complex annually improve their professional skills.
Much attention is currently being paid to the BSAA research work. Over the past five years, scientists of the Academy have received 152 patents of the Republic of Belarus for invents and useful models; published 79 monographs, 173 textbooks and manuals, 92 collections of scientific studies, 95 recommendations for industries. A significant part of the teaching staff participates in the implementation of various research programs and projects of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Foundation for Basic Research.
The Belarusian State Agricultural Academy takes leading positions in the republic in the development of international relations, actively collaborating with the leading universities of China, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Cambodia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and other countries. At present, over 500 foreigners from Germany, China, Nigeria, Syria, Azerbaijan, the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Turkmenistan study in BSAA.
The Academy has a status of a leading university in the national educational system of the Republic of Belarus in the field of training specialists for agriculture. The BSAA is the only university in Belarus, which in 1998 and 2003 was certified to conduct educational activities by the Russian Federal Service for Supervision in the field of Education and Science. In December 2009, then in November 2014 the Academy has successfully passed the certification of the Ministry of Education of the Republic Belarus.
