CLIB International Conference 2013 - Turning global opportunities into local values

April 17 & 18, 2013 in Düsseldorf, Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel

The accelerating bioeconomy presents outstanding opportunities, with value chains for biobased products spanning across countries & continents. But a dynamic and fast paced field like bioeconomy also continuously evokes elemental questions, concerning resources, processes and products:

Which renewable resources are available, and where & in which amounts? Is utilizing theses resources sustainable and economically feasible? If yes, under which conditions and in which way?

Is it reasonable to replace existing petrochemical processes, or should drop-in solutions feeding into current operations be preferred? Are biotechnological processes more efficient than chemical ones? Or is a combination of both key to success?

Which markets should be targeted: specialty or bulk chemicals? Which demands on products and technologies are made by customers and processing industries? What are the key properties a biobased product has to meet to be successful?

All these questions need to be considered, to turn bioeconomy’s opportunities into values. And that needs a multidisciplinary and multinational discussion, leading to broad international cooperation.
