Who has currently access to the university library?

From June 2, 2020, the library will again be open to all users.

Campusbibliothek - Montag bis Freitag 10-18 Uhr
Murhardsche Bibliothek - Montag bis Freitag 10-15 Uhr
Standort Witzenhausen - Montag bis Freitag 10-15 Uhr

Can I borrow media?

Yes, at the 3 open libraries you can pick up media from the open stocks and borrow them as usual. Media from closed stocks and currently closed library locations can be ordered via the internal loan system. You can also order any medium that is not in stock at your library location.

Can I return media?

Yes, during the respective opening hours media can be returned at Campus Library, at Murhard Library and at the library in Witzenhausen.

Are the library premises open for reading and learning?

Yes, however with limitations. Some of the learning places at the open locations can be reserved for individual work via a booking system. The lounges, the newspaper reading area and the roof terrace remain closed.

Can I pick up media from the book sections myself?

Yes, you have access to the open stocks at Campus Library, Murhard Library and at the library in Witzenhausen.

Are there direct contact persons on site for my questions?

Can I settle open fees?

Settling of reminder and book replacement fees is possible at the three open library  locations by CampusCard cashless payment.  All fees incurred prior to the closure of the library remain unchanged.

From Wednesday, 1 July 2020, media whose loan period has been exceeded will again be subject to regular reminders. Please return those media by 30 June 2020 or extend their loan period.

Can I extend the loan period of borrowed media?

Yes, extending loan periods is possible via your user account and is recommended. Instead of the usual 11, there are currently 15 extension levels. Please note: each renewal extends the loan period for the following 28 days. Renewing twice at the same time does not result in a doubled loan period!

Can I order or reserve media?

Media from currently closed library locations can be ordered via the internal loan system. Likewise, media from other locations than your own can be ordered as before.

Please understand that the provision of media may take a little longer at present. Please do not come to the library until you have received the pick-up notification.

Due to construction works, part of the holdings of the Kunsthochschulbibliothek are currently not available and cannot be ordered. For specific information on a particular medium please check the respective catalogue entry in KARLA.

Can I use reference media and other non-borrowable media?

Yes, from June 2, reference media and other holdings not for loan are again freely accessible for use and copying.

Can I order media from closed stocks?

Yes, you can order these media as usual. Please understand that the provision of media may take a little longer at present. Please do not come to the library until you have received the pick-up-notification.

Do I have access to the course reserves (Semesterapparate)?

Yes, from June 2, all course reserves at the open libraries will be freely accessible again.

How can I access media from the closed library locations Wilhelmshöher Allee and Oberzwehren?

The above-mentioned locations will remain closed for the time being. Required media can be ordered via the internal loan system. They will be provided for you on the pick-up shelf at Campus Library. As usual, you will receive an e-mail as soon as the required media are available for pick-up. Please understand that the provision of media may take a little longer at present.

How do I access media of the Library at Kunsthochschule?

For the duration of construction works at Kunsthochschule the following collections have moved to CampusLibrary at Holländischer Platz (building part B, level 2)

  • The course reserves (Semesterapparate)
  • Current and back issues of all periodicals from volumes 2016 to the present.

Monographs from the closed stocks and periodicals before 2016 can be orderd via Internal Loan Service (ILV).

Excluded from use due to construction works are:

All monographs and other media in the formerly open stocks.  These holdings are too large by number and could not be moved to any temporary quarter. Due to pending demolition work, they have been packed in foil to protect them from dirt and will remain wrapped until the contruction work is completed (presumably until November 2020). Meanwhile, it is not possible for the library staff to enter the construction site.

These media can be ordered free of charge via interlibrary loan until November 2020.  Order form

 

What do I do if I cannot renew media because of reminders or reservations?

 

Please return those media by Tuesday, 30 June 2020, during the opening hours listed below so that they are available for use again.

From Wednesday, 1 July 2020, media whose loan period has been exceeded will again be subject to regular reminders.

How long does it take for an ordered book to be ready on the pick-up shelf?

Due to transport, processing, and quaratine times, the delivery may take a few days. Please do not come to the library until you have received the pick-up-notification.

Can I use journal volumes on site or order articles from journals?

The use of printed journal volumes is possible. The printer/copiers are available. Copies from journals at other library locations can be ordered via the internal loan system.

Can I order media via interlibrary loan?

Yes, the service is re-installed.

Do I have access to my own library trolley?

During the opening hours mentioned above, the book trolleys can be used at previously reserved study places. Booking system

Can I use my carrel?

Yes, the carrels will be available from June 2, however strictly for single use!

Can I get infected by Corona virus using library books?

All returned media will be quarantined for at least 36 hours. After this time, corona viruses are considered to be no longer active on dry surfaces and therefore harmless.
