The service counters at Campus Library, Murhard Library, and at the libraries at Wilhelmshöher Allee, at Kunsthochschule, Oberzwehren and Witzenhausen are open to a limited extent. We have compiled questions and answers about the currently changed terms of use for you. Who has currently access to the university library?

All users have access to the six library locations:

Murhard Library Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 10-16 h | Wednesday 10-18 h
Library Wilhelmshöher Allee Monday to Friday 10-16 h

Can I borrow media?

Yes, at the six libraries you can pick up media from the open stocks and borrow them as usual. Media from closed stocks can be ordered via the internal loan system. You can also order any medium that is not in stock at your library location.

Can I return media?

Yes, during the respective opening hours media can be returned at Campus Library, at Murhard Library and at the libraries at Wilhelmshöher Allee, at Kunsthochschule, in Oberzwehren and Witzenhausen.

Can I borrow media anew directly after returning them?

Yes, you may borrow them again directly, provided they have not been reserved by someone else, or your library account is blocked due to outstanding reminder fees.

I have to return books and are in quarantine

Renew the loan period via your reader’s account.
If that isn’t possible, please contact the user service. Please do return media after your quarantine and send an attestation of your isolation or a medical certificate via e-mail to: nutzerservice@bibliothek.uni-kassel.de

Are the library premises open for reading and learning?

A limited number of work places are available at the locations of the University Library. Use our online booking system to reserve a work place.

Can I pick up media from the book sections myself?

Yes, you have access to the open stocks at Campus Library, Murhard Library, and at the libraries at Wilhelmshöher Allee, Kunsthochschule and in Oberzwehren and Witzenhausen.

Are there direct contact persons on site for my questions?

Yes, you will find us at the service counters at Campus Library, Murhard Library, and at the libraries at Wilhelmshöher Allee, Kunsthochschule, in Oberzwehren and Witzenhausen. The service counters are open in line with the university's hygiene regulations:

Can I settle open fees?

Settling of reminder and book replacement fees is possible at the six library locations by CampusCard cashless payment. All fees incurred prior to the closure of the library remain unchanged. If you have further questions about reminder fees, please contact the user service: nutzerservice@bibliothek.uni-kassel.de

Can I extend the loan period of borrowed media?

Yes, extending loan periods is possible via your user account and is recommended. Instead of the usual 11, there are currently 15 extension levels. Please note: each renewal extends the loan period for the following 28 days. Renewing twice at the same time does not result in a doubled loan period!

Can I order or reserve media?

All media circulating can be reserved.

Media from other library locations can be ordered.

Can I use reference media and other non-borrowable media?

Yes, all reference media and other holdings not for loan are freely accessible for use and copying.

Can I order media from closed stocks?

Yes, however the provision of those media may take a little longer at present. Please wait for the respective pick-up-notification.

Do I have access to the course reserves (Semesterapparate)?

Yes, all course reserves at the six library locations are freely accessible.

What do I do if I cannot renew media because of reminders or reservations?

Outstanding reminder fees can be settled by CampusCard cashless payment at the six library locations after returning the books with fees. If you have any questions, please contact the user service: nutzerservice@bibliothek.uni-kassel.de

How long does it take for an ordered book to be ready on the pick-up shelf?

Due to transport and processing, the delivery may take a few days. Please do not come to the library until you have received the pick-up-notification.

Can I use journal volumes on site or order articles from journals?

The use of printed journal volumes is possible. The printer/copiers are available. Copies from journals at other library locations can be ordered via the internal loan system.

Can I order media via interlibrary loan?

Yes, the service is re-installed.

Can I apply for a carrel or book trolley?

Use our online booking system to reserve a work place.

Lockable book trolleys can be requested by students in the graduation phase.

Can I get infected by Corona virus using library books?

Current evidence suggests that transmission of COVID-19 through smear infections is highly unlikely provided that frequent hand hygiene is practiced.
