Assessment Center

An assessment center is a special type of job interview.

What is an assessment center?

An assessment center is quite straightforward. With the word assessment it is to be understood that the applicant will be tested on their skills and competencies in various areas.

Assessment center is usually used for positions of responsibility, managing people or a budget for example. Trainee positions or later management tier positions are also tested in an assessment center. Oftentimes, an assessment center lasts an entire day, thereby taking considerably more time and resources than a standard job interview.

What is the goal of an assessment center?

The goal is to test for leadership potential and to test for the leadership style expected in the participants.

What is tested?

The candidates are tested primarily in the following areas:

•    Willingness to cooperate
•    Assertiveness
•    Persuasiveness
•    Oratory skills
•    Decisiveness
•    Planning and organizational skills
•    Intuition

The exercises are oriented around role playing scenarios, group discussions, in-tray exercises, or with interviews. Further examples for these exercises can be found in our literature at our Campus Center office.
