Tasks:
Your work is part of the joint research project MILIA funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). The aim of the project is to develop multi-lidar measurement strategies and to qualify them for their application in the wind industry. The project focuses on applications of multi-lidar-based wind measurements in wind resource assessments. Multi-lidar systems create the possibility to measure the wind at various points in the planned wind farm with only one measurement setup. In this context, the University of Kassel is developing a method for uncertainty quantification and reduction in multi-lidar measurements. The following tasks are part of the position:
- Development of methods to analyze and quantify the uncertainties of multi-lidar measurements
- Transfer these uncertainties to the applications of wind resource assessment and site calibration for power curve performance verification
- Development of procedures to reduce uncertainties of multi-lidar measurements in close cooperation with Fraunhofer IEE
- Simulations and metrological determination of uncertainties
- Practical activities such as installing, programming, documentation and support of the multi-lidar measurement campaigns in close cooperation with the Fraunhofer IEE
- Quality control and analysis of wind data
Requirements:
- Master degree (or equivalent) in engineering, natural sciences or mathematics
- Good programming skills in Matlab, Python or another programming language
- Good German and English language skills
- Willingness to supervise and handle measurement technology
- Interest in application-oriented scientific work
- Organizational skills and ability to work in a team.
- Willingness to travel inside and outside of Germany
- Methodical and independent way of working
- Interest in writing a Ph.D. thesis
Of advantage:
- Experience in the field of wind energy
- Knowledge of measurement technology, particularly lidar wind measurements
- Knowledge of micro-meteorology
- Experience with wind resource assessment performance verification of wind turbines
