The position is initially limited in time for 3 years (qualification position according to § 65 HHG in conjunction with § 2 para. 1 sentence 1 WissZeitVG). The possibility to pursue a doctoral degree is given.

The focus of the research and development tasks is the optimization of neural networks for FPGAs. Algorithms for design automation in interaction with training and optimization of neural networks are also to be developed. Some of the tasks are part of a BMBF project on the use of neural networks for the analysis of time series. In addition to the construction of a prototype as a demonstrator, a transfer to teaching will also take place. At the department design and optimization algorithms in high-level synthesis and for FPGA-based arithmetic circuits are investigated. These methods are to be improved and applied to the problem within the framework of research activities.

This requires profound programming knowledge in C++ or another object-oriented language as well as fun in programming. Furthermore, basic knowledge of the hardware design of digital logic, e.g. with VHDL or Verilog, and basic knowledge of FPGAs and their design software are required. Experience in working with machine learning environments (e.g. TensorFlow, Keras) including Python knowledge is of great advantage. Previous knowledge of digital signal processing would be an advantage.

The position requires a very good degree in one of the study courses Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems Engineering or similar and requires distinct methodical and analytical skills as well as a good knowledge of the English language in word and writing. Good German language skills are advantageous for cooperation within the project and the subject area, in teaching and in communication with the students.

The opportunity to prepare a dissertation is given. The provision of services in the project also serves the scientific qualification of the applicant.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering/Computer Science aims to increase the proportion of women in the scientific field and therefore invites women in particular to apply.
