Job description:

In cooperation with the departments Hydrology and Substance Balance and Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, you design a research proposal and apply for external funding for your own junior research group in river-groundwater interactions and perform the preliminary work for this. A joint use of existing laboratory equipment (e.g. stable isotopes, water quality) and experimental facilities is possible. Throughout the period funded by the university, you will lecture for four hours per week on a topic from your subject area.

List of requirements:

You

  • hold a university degree (M.Sc.) in environmental engineering, hydrology, hydrogeology or equivalent
  • must have successfully completed your doctorate degree in a topic related to river-groundwater interaction no longer than three years ago
  • have relevant or even international research and publication experience
  • are planning an experimental or model-based novel research project in the field of river-groundwater interaction

The applicants are expected to write a short summary (half a page) of their research ideas for getting funding for a junior research group. The following topics can be a focus, but other ideas are also welcome:

  • reactive transport in the hyporheic zone
  • dynamics of riverbed colmatation as a consequence of different hydraulic situations
  • temporal and spatial variability of groundwater inflow and outflow to or from the riverbed

If you have any questions, please contact Prof. Dr. Gaßmann, Tel.: 0049 561-804-3462, E-Mail: gassmann[at]uni-kassel[dot]de.
