According to Section 64 (3) of the Higher Education Act of Hesse with a development commitment after a probationary period of 6 years to receive a permanent contract as a W 2 Professor.

 

The professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States.

 

We are searching a scientifically outstanding personality, heading the new Section "Agroecosystem Analysis and Modelling" with a focus on the analysis of changes in land use systems of different agroclimatic zones. He/she shall contribute in research and teaching to the consolidation of the profile of the Faculty of Organic Agricultural Sciences.

 

In research and teaching, the dynamics and resilience of changing land use systems in the context of agriculture are to be investigated from a natural science perspective. This includes an understanding of important socio-economic and institutional drivers. Methodologically, the professorship shall contribute to the development and use of new remote sensing techniques to analyse high-resolution spatial heterogeneity and temporal variability in field and land use patterns. Cross-scale processes are to be addressed using GIS-based modeling with large data sets.

 

The successful candidate has to be committed to the development and teaching of innovative modules in the BSc and MSc programms "Ökologische Landwirtschaft" (both taught in German) and in the MSc program "Sustainable International Agriculture" (taught in English). This includes the basics of data processing, agroecosystemic interrelationships and regulatory processes as well as the modelling of agroecosystems and the processing of multi-dimensional GIS-related data. Experience in rural-urban agroecosystems and the sustainability assessment of historical, present and future development processes are desirable.

 

Applicants must have a PhD with a focus on the analysis and modelling of agroecosystems as well as experience in teaching with proof of their didactic abilities. Relevant, peer-reviewed publications and successful participation in research projects are expected. Furthermore, experience in the acquisition of third-party funds is to be demonstrated. Previous activities also have to show the capability of the candidate in conductinginterdisciplinary research. Contributions to or documented interest in research questions arising from the context of organic farming are desirable.
