Musical lecture: Ted Rosenthal Jazz Trio on the jazz opera "Dear Erich" & followed by a workshop with big band

5 pm: Musical lecture by Ted Rosenthal and the Ted Rosenthal Jazz Trio on his jazz opera "Dear Erich" (based on the family history)
7 pm: Open workshop with the big band on their musical program by Thelonious Monk.

Ted Rosenthal has family roots in Hesse: Ted Rosenthal's father, Erich Rosenthal, was a student at Giessen University during the Nazi era, but had to leave the university and eventually emigrated to the USA. Ted Rosenthal recently found letters from his father, literally in the attic, which he had received from his mother who had stayed behind in Germany. Ted Rosenthal used these letters to compose a jazz opera entitled "Dear Erich", which deals with the fate of the family and the oppression of the Jews by the National Socialists.

In a musical lecture - accompanied by the Ted Rosenthal Jazz Trio - Ted Rosenthal will talk about the creation of the opera, musical peculiarities and his life. The jazz trio will perform excerpts from the opera.
