IT System Architect (up to EG 13 TV-H) - in the IT Service Center

The IT Service Center is a central technical facility of the university. Around 60 employees provide sophisticated IT services for students, teaching staff, researchers and the administration.

Tasks:

• Operation and further development of the central ITS databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• Conception and management of complex IT projects
• Troubleshooting and rectification of errors in the databases. Second-level user support in ITS database operation
• Administration of the parallel file systems (IBM Spectrum Scale). Troubleshooting and correction of errors in the parallel file systems. Second-level user support in the operation of the parallel file systems
• Installation, maintenance and administration of the central storage network. Troubleshooting and rectification of errors in the storage network
• Installation, configuration, operation and networking of complex, high-availability server systems and operating system-related services under Linux (Redhat, Debian) and MS Windows, taking into account high security requirements
• Conception, configuration and monitoring of data backup, package filters and system security
• Documentation, monitoring and supervision of IT operations
• On-call services
• Contact person for colleagues and users in second-level support

Requirements

• Completed (possibly scientific) university degree in an engineering or MINT course of study
• Very good knowledge of setting up, configuring and administering databases, especially PostgreSQL
• Very good knowledge of Linux, ideally Debian and Redhat
• Good knowledge of setting up, configuring and administering parallel file systems, in particular IBM Spectrum Scale
• Good knowledge of and experience with programming languages (C, C++, Java, shell programming)
• Good knowledge and experience in the management of IT projects
• Independent working style combined with a high degree of team spirit
• Commitment, flexibility and ability to work under pressure
• Systematic and structured way of working
• Willingness and ability to create technical documentation
• Willingness to develop professionally

Advantageous are:

Knowledge in the operation and configuration of:

• system-related application software (NFS, Samba)
• Firewall systems and packet filters
• MS server operating systems and Active Directory server services
• x86 virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, oVirt)
• Networking of IT systems (Ethernet, InfiniBand, Fibre Channel)
• Hardware in the x86 server area
• UNIX systems (Solaris)
• SAN systems
