Training for teachers: Fresh from the literacy kitchen: comics & graphic novels

Introduce reading strategies, describe the mood and setting or write a character characterization. Do you use comics, bandes dessinées, graphic novels or graphic novels for these classic reading skills tasks? Then unfortunately you belong to the minority. In fact, the latter can be used for much more than just promoting reading motivation. This genre can be used not only to train all the classic skills, but also to motivate various creative tasks. Specific practical examples are used to show how the numerous attractively drawn comics and graphic novels can be used profitably in terms of content and method. The methodological concept presented on the techniques of the genre (e.g. effect and interplay of image and text) enables teachers not only to didactically prepare further comics and graphic novels, but also to create an analog or digital mini-comic as a project or competition for pupils. The use of a comic will first be demonstrated using the BD "Simon et Louise" and then further possible applications and practical examples of the use of the genre will be presented.
