Opening MINT week "MINT meets sustainability": Introductory lecture "Hands-on mathematics"

Mathematics is only theoretical? Computer science only for nerds? Science is complicated and technology is dangerous? So it's best to keep your hands off it? Better not!

Because to solve many of today's problems, such as climate change, demographic development and the sustainable, responsible use of our energy resources, we need STEM - science, technology, engineeringand mathematics.

For this reason, the MINT Hub of the University of Kassel will organize a MINT week for the university and the region in the summer semester 2023 from Monday, 08.05.2023 to Saturday, 13.05.2023 .

On Monday, 08.05.23, a central kick-off event will take place in the Campus Center of the University for the joint STEM Week:

18:00 - 19:30 (Lecture Hall 1): Introductory lecture, "Mathematik zum Anfassen", Prof. Dr. Albrecht Beutelspacher, initiator and director of the Mathematikum Gießen, musically accompanied by the Volkswagen Sound Orchestra.

Prof. Dr. Albrecht Beutelspacher, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Giessen from 1988 to 2018, is the initiator and director of the Mathematikum in Giessen. The Mathematikum in Giessen is the world's first hands-on mathematics museum with over 150 exhibits for visitors of all ages and backgrounds. Prof. Beutelspacher lives for mathematics. And he loves to bring it closer to others even more. He writes columns and books and creates television programs.

For our planning, please register for the event.
