Research assistant (m/f/d), EG 13 TV-H - in the field of measurement and control engineering
Application deadline: | 30.07.2019 |
Start of recruitment: | 01.09.2019 |
Reference number: | 32489 |

The position is initially limited until 31.12.2021 as part of the project "Prediction of the surface layer condition for the robust control of a turning process using in-process measurement technology and data-driven soft sensors" (§ 2 para. 2 WissZeitVG). The possibility of a doctorate is given.
Tasks:
Your task is the research, development and characterization of methods for data-driven modeling for machining manufacturing processes using the example of hard turning. Selected surface layer properties of a machined component are to be traced back to the turning parameters (process manipulated variables) as well as existing disturbance variables and initial surface layer properties in order to enable robust model-based pre-control and control of component properties. The method development should be oriented towards the knowledge areas of system identification, machine learning, computational intelligence and related areas. The problem is part of an interdisciplinary research project in which the Institute of Materials Engineering at the University of Kassel is also involved. The methods are to be tested and demonstrated with data from the research partner. In addition, you will support the department in lectures and practical courses as well as in scientific and organizational tasks.
You will have the opportunity to gain early experience in leading a small working group by supervising Bachelor's and Master's theses and student assistants. We will support you in achieving your scientific and technical goals.
Requirements:
- University degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering or a comparable course of study with at least a good grade
- Good knowledge of and interest in empirical modeling methods
- Experience in modeling cause-effect relationships in machining production
- Fluent written and spoken German and good knowledge of English
- Programming experience in Matlab, R, Python
- Experience in the areas of system identification and machine learning is an advantage
