The climate, biodiversity and energy crises are forcing us to radically question current building practices. Fusion Talks 2022/23 introduces actors who use unconventional concepts and ideas to advocate a genuine change in construction and mobility, other forms of city and landscape and contemporary teaching. To mark the 50th anniversary of the ASL department, the fusion builds on the long tradition of progressive ecological positions at the University of Kassel and updates them for the present. less: is a plea for less: fewer cars, less demolition, less concrete, less CO2, less environmental destruction, less sealing, less exploitation, less capitalism. The role of urban planners and architects will change significantly in the coming years. In order to ensure adequate training, we need more courage to experiment, interdisciplinary teaching concepts and a de-hierarchization of structures. The Fusion Talks aim to develop utopian potential and encourage people to change things themselves.

Dr. Gabu Heindl took over as Head of the Department of Construction and Project Development | "Architecture City Economy" in the winter semester 2022/23. She studied architecture in Vienna, Tokyo and at Princeton University and completed a doctorate in philosophy at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. From 2018 to 2021, she was a visiting professor at Sheffield University with a research focus on Urban Commons and subsequently Professor of Urban Design at Nuremberg Institute of Technology. Since 2019 she has been a Unit Master at the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA), London.
Gabu Heindl works in practice and theory on non-profit, collective housing models, project development and financing models. In Kassel, she will contribute her academic and practical experience as an architect and urban planner to research into socio-ecological changes of perspective in the (re)construction industry and project development, towards non-profit housing and urban development.

Fusion 2022/23 is conceived and organized by the student project group Less:ON and the Department of Architectural Theory and Design.

FUSION: Public lecture series - Positions on architecture, city and landscape

Scientists, planners and designers are invited to the weekly public lecture series Fusion to report on their work with a special focus on their position on architecture, city and landscape and to discuss it with the guests. The newly appointed professors and guest lecturers give their inaugural lectures as part of Fusion.
