Reading & discussion: Jasmin Lörchner reads from "Not just heroines"

Jasmin Lörchner, freelance journalist and known to a large audience for her "HerStory" podcast, is coming to Kassel at the invitation of the Archive of the German Women's Movement and the University Library for a reading from her book "Nicht nur Heldinnen".

Since 2020, Jasmin Lörchner has been talking in her podcast "HerStory" about strong women* and queer people in history from a wide variety of fields, from suspenders to scientists, from antiquity to the present day, from all parts of the world. It is important to her to show all facets of a life - not just the positive ones. This is where her first book "Not just heroines" comes in. In five chapters with different focal points - powerful, creative, doers, pioneers, fighters - Jasmin Lörchner tells the story of a total of 20 women who have achieved groundbreaking things - but who have sometimes behaved in anything but heroic ways: "With "Nicht nur Heldinnen", I follow the same approach as in my podcast [...]: Not to tell women's history and queer history through rose-colored glasses, but also to give space to the weaknesses or mistakes of the protagonist:s so that we can better understand them and their actions. As I write in the foreword: Not only heroines write history."

At the reading on April 26, Jasmin Lörchner will introduce some of the women from her debut novel. In conversation with Christina Soose from the Archive of the German Women's Movement, she will talk about the background to and fascination with these women - but many other women's movement topics will also be addressed. Of course, there will also be time for questions from the audience about "Not just heroines", the "HerStory" podcast and book signing.
