Intercultural learning in the school garden

Training in the tropical greenhouse at the University of Kassel

School gardens are ideal for children's first encounters with nature. The
pupils gain experience in growing vegetables, taste the
variety, take responsibility or discover insects. However, the gardens are also places that
open up completely new perspectives for interaction, enable intercultural encounters
and where joint learning can take place - entirely in the spirit of "Education for Sustainable
Development" (ESD). Gardening, just like eating, is something universal and unifying.
The training shows ways to promote intercultural learning in the school garden
and is a mixture of interactions and short inputs. Discussion and exchange
are not neglected. A guided tour of the tropical greenhouse at the University of Kassel
helps us to find links to intercultural learning. The second part provides time
and space for the development of concrete ideas for implementing intercultural learning in the
own school garden.

Target groups and limits on the number of participants
Teachers, educational specialists and head teachers, especially of secondary
school types and levels, multipliers of ESD and environmental education as well as other
interested parties
The number of participants is limited to 15.

Costs
The training is free of charge. Participants are responsible for their own catering costs.

seminar leader Ms. Goldschmidt with the following information:

- Institution (name of the institution / school, type of school)
- Function (please specify whether teacher, school management, pedagogical specialist (e.g. in
