International conference "Elites, Inequality and Wealth in Latin America" to mark the CELA anniversary

The CELA - Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos at the University of Kassel is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year and can look back on an exciting and successful time.

To celebrate the anniversary after a two-year interruption due to the pandemic, CELA and the Centro Maria Sibylla Merian de Estudios Latinoamericanos Avanzados -CALAS(www.calas.lat) are hosting the Jornada Latinoamericana 2022 from June 27 to 29. The topic will be questions on elites, inequality and wealth in Latin America.

The program and further information can be found at: https://www.uni-kassel.de/forschung/cela/aktuelles

After the opening by President Prof. Dr. Ute Clement, more than 20 international academics from Argentina, Chile, France, Mexico, Spain, Uruguay, the USA and Cuba will present key aspects of inequality in the region over three days and discuss what political options are available to achieve greater social cohesion in the region.

The interdisciplinarity practiced through debates between sociology, economics, politics, history, literature, linguistics and other disciplines is one of the hallmarks of CELA and CALAS.

The exchange between the countries and regions always takes place on an equal footing. Those responsible emphasize that they do not study about Latin America, but with it. Only in this way is it possible to master the global challenges of the future together.
