Panel discussion: GENDER - CURSE OR BLESSING?

For some it is a question of respect, for others it is a defacement of the language in words and writing. The topic is the subject of controversial debate in the local press and the feature pages of national newspapers. And it is not only since the city of Kassel decided to introduce gender-equitable administrative language that the debate about gender stars, gender gaps and glottal stops has also flared up here. At the University of Kassel, it was even possible until recently to devalue academic papers if they were not correctly gendered. This practice - unique in Germany - was suspended following protests and is now being legally reviewed.

The Literaturhaus Nordhessen is taking up the debate. In cooperation with the Kulturzentrum Schlachthof and the Virtuelle Bühne Kassel, it is hosting a panel discussion on language, culture and freedom.

The panelists are:

Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Tuider, Professor of Sociology of Diversity with special consideration of the gender dimension at the Department of Social Sciences (University of Kassel).
Dr. Sina Lautenschläger, Faculty of Human Sciences, Department of German Studies (Otto von Guericke University, Magdeburg)
Daniele Dell'Agli, philosopher and writer (Kassel)
Friedrich Forssman, typographer and book designer (Kassel)
