Kassel Comedy Colloquium - Festival on the literature and science of comedy

The Brückner-Kühner Foundation has been organizing the Kassel Comedy Colloquium together with partners for 20 years. From February 29 to March 7, 2020, this unique festival on the literature and science of comedy will take place for the 9th time. The program includes eight days of readings, stage art, exhibitions and music, combined with a symposium on interdisciplinary humor research. Its motto "After sex" extends into the artistic events. We are looking forward to Lisa Eckhart, Pit Knorr, Michael Lentz, Nora Gomringer, Stefanie Sargnagel and the duo Pigor & Eichhorn, among others. The program also includes the presentation of the "Kassel Literature Prize for Grotesque Humor" to Heinz Strunk and the "Prize for the Promotion of Comic Literature" to Chrizzi Heinen.

As part of the festival, the humor science conference with the motto "After Sex" will deal with the connection between comedy and eroticism: Eros and sex are more popular individually and culturally in the media and consumer society than almost anything else, they are also a hot topic in current, often tragicomic debates about sexism, abuse, homophobia and gender presumptions - but also bear witness to failure and great weariness. The existential significance of sex arises from the tension between obsession and taboo, seduction and prohibition, between freedom and compulsion, power and repression, willingness and ability. The comic almost inevitably reaches into these differences. The tendentious joke is only the most popular expression of this. And how (funny) is it when you don't want to know anything about sex - or have it behind you, when you say (with Foucault) "No to King Sex"?
