Tasks:

Diverse and challenging tasks in research, teaching and administration.

Establishment of an independent research group and self-determined, autonomous research in the field of Theoretical Atomic and Molecular Physics. The position holder should actively participate in the CRC 1319 'Extreme Light for the Analysis and Control of Molecular Chirality (ELCH)', which started on January 1, 2018, by researching the photoelectron circular dichroism of chiral molecules in direct collaboration with the experimental groups of the CRC. Aspects of atomic and molecular spectroscopy in weak and strong fields will be investigated using modern methods of theoretical physics. Of particular importance here are ab-initio descriptions of the electronic continuum spectrum in molecules with applications in angle-resolved electron and fluorescence spectroscopy. Above-average publication activity is expected.

Support of the institute in the field of teaching. Provision of independent scientific services and commitment to the organization, preparation and implementation of teaching to the extent of 8 semester hours per week. Teaching duties include the usual lecture, exercise and examination activities in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in physics as well as in the teacher training programs in physics and nanostructure sciences. Supervision of students and Bachelor's, Master's, examination and doctoral theses is expected.

Organizational tasks in the institute and department with special responsibility are to be performed. Participation in academic self-administration is considered a matter of course. Successful acquisition and handling of competitive third-party funded projects (e.g. DFG, BMBF). Membership in the scientific center CINSaT ("Center for Interdisciplinary Nanostructure Science and Technology") of the University of Kassel, in which departments from physics, chemistry, biology and engineering sciences work together, is desired.

Prerequisites:

Completed PhD in Theoretical Physics and at least 6 years of PostDoc experience after a habilitation in Theoretical Physics. Very good expertise in the theory of the interaction of light with atoms, molecules and clusters. Mastery of a wide range of methods, especially in the description of the electronic continuum spectrum in molecules with applications in angle-resolved electron and fluorescence spectroscopy. Outstanding and internationally visible research experience and publication activity in the above-mentioned research focus. Proven joint publications with experimenters from the SFB-1319. Independent projects in the SFB.

Proven experience in university teaching, especially independent lecturing and examination activities, as well as supervision of Bachelor's, Master's, examination and doctoral theses. In particular, the post holder should be able to provide evidence of courses held on quantum mechanics and mathematical methods in physics.

Organizational skills, especially acquisition and handling of third-party funded projects. Leadership experience and experience in the academic supervision of students. Good knowledge of research structures and administrative processes. Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation in the natural sciences.
